Landscape management involves the use of resources, materials and labor required to sustain the landscape in an aesthetically acceptable and environmentally sound condition. Landscape management employs maintenance/management specifications involving: turf management – mowing, fertilization, integrated pest management, aeration; plant care – pruning, fertilization, integrated pest management; irrigation – water use efficiency; bed maintenance – mulch, waste handling, compositing; and hardscape management.

During his time at MSU, Dr. Schutzki was responsible for teaching and extension in the area of Landscape Horticulture. His efforts focused on landscape design, plant establishment, plant problem diagnosis, and landscape management practices.
